Somos Nuestras Raíces Open Mic: an open mic to celebrate SLCC's Latxin community Featuring Poet Jacqueline Balderrama

Come join us on October 13, 2021 to celebrate Latinx heritage in the Student Writing & Reading Center or on Zoom (at https://bit.ly/SWRCOpenMic)!  The Student Writing & Reading Center will be hosting an open mic for SLCC’s Latinx community to either read their own work or the work of their favorite Latinx writer. The event will be hybrid and will be both live and broadcast on Zoom from AAB 129, the Student Writing & Reading Center.  All readers must register at https://bit.ly/RaicesOpenMic.

Following the open mic, poet Jacqueline Balderrama will join us and at noon will be reading from her new collection Now in Color (winner of the Perugia Prize) and other poems.

Dr. Balderrama recently finished her PhD at the University of Utah, and is currently teaching at the Arizona State University. Along with Now in Color, Balderrama is the author of a chapbook, Nectar and Small. She grew up in Southern California and earned a BA from UC Riverside and an MFA from Arizona State University. While at ASU, she received Virginia G. Piper Center Fellowships for international writing residencies in Asia and was involved in the Letras Latinas literary initiative and the ASU Prison Education Program.
