Lindsey Cowley presents a series of striking, three-dimensional wall sculptures in her new exhibition Faces. Each piece offers a journey of visual discovery, as faces-within-faces emerge from the layered forms. Through these brightly colored portraits, Cowley explores the complexity of human emotion—how multiple, sometimes conflicting feelings can coexist within us at once.

While her “Faces” recall mythical beings from long ago, their saturated colors and geometric compositions give them a distinctly modern look. Cowley’s unique style draws on a wide range of influences from artists like Pablo Lobato and Genndy Tartakovsky to broader art movements including Pop, Post-Pop, Pop-Surrealism, comics, cartoons, animation, and street art. Additionally, she incorporates elements from traditional forms like Yūrei-zu (19th-century Japan) and Minhwa (Joseon Dynasty Korea), folding them seamlessly into her own vibrant visual language.

Exaggerated features and bold expressions amplify the emotional spectrum on display—playful, tense, curious, reflective, heroic, mischievous. Together, they invite viewers to consider how multiple versions of a face—and of a feeling—intersect to form a single moment of human experience.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:  Lindsey Cowley is a local artist with over 15 years of experience in creative industries. With a background in graphic design and animation, she brings a strong graphic sensibility—bold colors, clean lines, and dynamic shapes—to everything she creates.
