Women and Religion

As part of Religious Diversity Awareness Month, Salt Lake Community College is proud to present discussion of “Women and Religion”. Inter-religious Conversations with Dr. Margaret M. Toscano and Alaa al-Barkawi. 

Dr. Margaret Toscano has written on the role of women in Mormonism and the theological doctrine of the Heavenly Mother. Founder of the Mormon Women's Forum, a group formed in 1988 to encourage open discussion of Mormon culture and gender issues, Toscano teaches at the University of Utah.

Alaa Al-Barkawi is a graduate of SLCC, a McNair Scholar and former editor-in-chief of Ellipsis. She has written and spoken on how Muslim women are fighting against islamophobia in a post-9/11 world.AL-BARKAWI works at Promise Salt Lake as mentor to students.

Religious Diversity Awareness Month activies are sponsored by the SLCC Humanities, Language and Culture Department
Arts and Cultural Events and the Office of Special Assistant to the President (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion).
