Salt Lake Community College

Disability Awareness Week

Disability Awareness Week is coming to SLCC in September. Every year the Disability Resource Center hosts a week-long event celebrating the disability experience. The overall goal is to help the SLCC community understand that disability is a natural part of the human experience. Past speakers have included comedians, musicians, accessibility engineers, doctors, and a Paralympic athlete. They have discussed everything from social justice, physical fitness and even sex.

This year's theme is "Beyond Barriers" and will feature a workshop by Thomas J. Tobin, co-author of "Reach Everyone, Teach Everyone: Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education." The workshop will discuss designing content that is accessible for all and include faculty and student focused sessions.
