The Lesser Chaos: Choosing Abstraction Over Reality

“If I choose abstraction over reality, it is because I consider it the lesser chaos.”

– Robert Brault

“The Lesser Chaos” is a celebration of Abstract Art and all the exciting and unexpected forms it takes. This group exhibition showcases the work of 33 local artists, providing an opportunity for us to develop our relationship with modern abstract art by experiencing in-person the many wildly different mediums being explored by this diverse group of talented artists.  By pushing the boundaries and definitions of what we perceive abstract art to be, these artists encourage the viewer to embrace the intangible. They dare you to feel the energy and motion of an expressionist gesture, to engage with the radical act of creation through risk and lawlessness and the unconscious mind, to look beyond the decorative act of reproduction and allow the glorious spirit of abstraction to inspire some reflection. What is reality? What is abstraction?  In the unbridled chaos that is the year 2024, is it so crazy to choose the latter?

This event is a double opening reception for both "The Lesser Chaos" and "Games We Play" exhibitions. Visit the SLCC Exhibitions page for more information.
