Salt Lake Community College

2020 Beloved Community Photography Exhibit/Opening Reception

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. popularized the phrase "beloved community" to represent his vision for societies that embrace cooperation, unity, and connection.  To honor and apply this bold idea, the Salt Lake Community College School of Arts, Communication & Media created a program to encourage art by local students that showcases their own cherished neighborhoods.

The Beloved Community Photography Project provides photography equipment and instruction by SLCC faculty members to students from Whittier Elementary School, Adelaide Elementary School, Granit Park Jr. High, and Glendale Middle School. After participating in classroom activities that explore Dr. King's legacy and training in photography techniques, students took photos that highlight their beloved connections with their own communities.

An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, February 12 from 6:00-7:30 PM. Free parking in the yellow-lined spaces on the east side of campus. Refreshments will be served.

Sponsored by the University Federal Credit Union.
